Kinesiologist / Clinical Assistant in SportsMedicine

1 full time position available for a 2nd Clinical Assistant (clinical and research) in a busy sports medicine / orthopedic surgeon's practice in the setting of a multidisciplinary clinic (osteopaths, RMTs, physiotherapists, chiropractors, athletic trainers) on Bloor Street / South Kingsway.  

60 % of the work entails answering the phone, scheduling patients for clinic visits and surgeries, scanning documents into the electronic medical record software, dictations, collecting research data, and preparing/mailing insurance forms. The remainder of the time is to assist the physician with seeing sports patients, doing sports rehabilitation independently, assisting with research, travelling internationally for research presentations, as well as helping with sports medicine/orthopedic procedures (casting/suture removal/injections). Dress code is business formal at all times in the clinic. 

Qualifications: University/Bachelor degree in Kinesiology is a mandatory minimum requirement. Registered kinesiologist certification and research experience are assets. A Master’s degree in Clinical Epidemiology is an asset. 

Familiarity with OHIP medical billing, transcription, scanning, answering phone calls, office and surgery scheduling. Must be able to multi-task in a busy environment. 

Experience in orthopedic surgery, sports medicine, physiotherapy, athletic therapy, kinesiology or research is mandatory. 

Familiarity with electronic medical record softwares (Nightingale), PubMed searches, Ovid, SPSS, systematic reviews/meta-analyses, Microsoft Office, Internet and social media are assets.

Hours are 8:30 till 5:00 pm Mon-Fri. Any hour worked outside this timeframe is paid 1.5 x normal rate. Clinics can run late till 6:30 pm on Tuesdays/Thursdays. Having a car is an asset. Clinical assistant may occasionally see athletes with Dr. Nguyen at other sports locations. Occasional game coverage (2-3 times a year) on week-ends if Dr. Nguyen covers sports games as well as sports medicine symposium on 1 Saturday/year. 

Salary is 17 $ - 30$ / hr based on experience with a 3 months probation period and a signed 2 year, renewable contract, with a criminal record/background check, and a practical/hands-on interview. Potential for salary raise or insurance benefits coverage every 6 months with performance review.
